Is the house actually dirty or does it need a coat of paint?
If you have ever walked thru a Big Box store that sells lawn and garden equipment you are sure to of seen a power washer of some type. In some parts o the country were the humidity is high most of the year power washing is Big business.
Around new England the businesses that specialize in washing homes are few and far between and most paining companies also wash all their own homes that are scheduled to be painted approximately a week or so before the painters start to prepare the house to paint.
But the question I ask and I own a painting company is does your home actually need a paint job or does it just need a washing? The first determining factor is if the current paint job on the house is still intact and not peeling or flaking. If it all looks good then let us proceed to a test spot.
Steps on testing your house for washing or painting:
One way of testing is to take a section of the house approximately 10 feet by 10 feet.
hose and running water
long handle scrub brush
house wash found at paint store or big box hardware store
Let the area dry and if the house looks good, presto the house is washed and no paint needed.
We find some of our homeowners will have us power wash their homes every two years to keep them
clean and rid them from dust, pollen and early stages of mold growth.
Most home washes depending on the size of the home range from $ 300 to $ 600 dollars.
