Pool Cabana Painting, What is the correct paint?
May 25, 2016Exterior wood rot and deterioration in New England is an ongoing battle with the harsh ever so changing elements and temperature swings we endure.
Many new products have been introduced but they all come with a hefty price tag in regards to purchasing, removing and discarding of old wood and labor to replace the wood removed. Secondly if you have ornate or custom woodwork on your home it is very costly or impossible to duplicate.
The easiest and most cost effective solution:
MAINTENANCE……….
- CAULKING. when purchasing caulking purchase the best that you can afford. The difference from a low cost (cheap) tube of caulking to an expensive tube of caulking is usually no more than $4.00 a tube. The difference is flexibility in regards to movement and the caulking staying intact when the contracts and moves with the weather. Good caulk will move and stretch with it.
- PAINTING: Keep all surfaces covered with paint. This will keep the elements out and prevent moisture from penetr
ating the wood. If possible when replacing or building all six sides of wood should be primed to seal the wood.
- NAIL HOLES/SCREW HOLES: Fill the nail holes and screw holes if the reside below the surface in an exterior area with an appropriate wood filler. Filling these areas will eliminate areas were water can sit and eventually break down the paint covering.
- GUTTERS: Install gutters and direct the water away from the house. constant introduction of water on painted areas will cause premature paint breakdown.
