Painting in the HEAT
August 11, 2015What does a painter do on his day off?
Golf, Movies, Picnic, Sleep….Not this Painter
On a recent Saturday I had the pleasure of volunteering for a community event. It all started as an invite on Facebook to a local event, The Stadium Painting Party.
We receive so many invites but this event I knew I could help. We were going to be painting the local sports Stadium, home of the Methuen Rangers.
Quickly the rsvp attendee list grew to over 140 people.
We were going to need a lot of supplies. After contacting the organizer and mustering support from my local suppliers. We were able to receive donations from the Purdy brush company, Sherwin Williams and many other donations from generous individuals from our community.
By 8 am Saturday the volunteers started filing in. As the “new” painters got to work you could hear laughter, chatting and everyone marveling how “Great the Stadium looked”.
Lunch was served, paint buckets were filled once again, additional replacements “painters” came thru the door.
Quite a few Moms, Dads, Football players, cheerleaders, wrestlers, politicians, neighbors and so many others I couldn’t remember them all started the final coat of paint.
A few also tackled the ticket booths with a fresh coat of paint.
By end of the day, many hands made light work. New friends were made, but the best thing that came from this project was the commitment to our community that I saw from everyone involved.
I could not be prouder to be part of our Methuen community.
