I might be dating myself bit a looong time ago almost all the walls seem to be wallpapered. I owned apartments that every room in it was wallpapered due to the fact that wallpaper was inexpensive and could hide a myriad of deficiencies in the walls, in fact we sometimes wallpapered ceilings.
Low cost paper wallpaper was the way to go. I hate to admit this but my child hood room had bicentennial figures and cannons on it.
As with the way of the bell bottoms it fell out of style. Less and less people used wallpaper, the wallpaper installers turned to paint and many of them retired along with the expertise of installing the coverings.
Wallpaper is back in again..
the only obstacle is that there are few installers for the demand and the wallpaper industry has taken the high road. Meaning there is virtually no low end wallpaper sold. Wallpaper is now chic and expensive.
