4 Things Your House Painter Wishes You To Know
April 1, 2016Top Tips to Prepare the Surface Before Painting
April 10, 2016The year was 2000 and reds and stained wood was the trend in house and room refinishing. Its time for a basement makeover
Well I hate to tell you, that was sixteen years ago.
Are you living with a room or basement that has seen better days over 15 years ago?
This small project was an outdated basement for a homeowner that was going to rent out their town home and wanted a new fresh look.
This was a two day project for two of the painters on my crew.
These are the steps we took to achieve the new fresh look:
- Oil prime all the stained wood trim and beadboard to prep it for paint and to sand the wood from tannin bleed thru (oils in the wood like to bleed thru paint over time if they are not sealed in).
- caulked all seems in wood and trim after the primer was dry to hide what cracks, joints and seams.
- filled all nail holes that were now visible after priming.
- light sand all walls and fill voids
- apply two coats of a quality latex paint to upper walls (we used Benjamin Moore).
- apply two coats of Benjamin Moore latex trim paint to all wood trim, doors and bead board.
BOOOOM the basement has a new look. This was a small two day project and easy enough to spread it out over a few nights to achieve the same look.
Please note that the oil primer has an odor and you want to make sure you wear a mask specific for this process and have plenty of ventilation.
